view from my seat at the medal awards gala! it was a great night filled with cocktail dresses, fierce bidding, and a casual view of chihuly. also a great couple who collects photos bought my work, which was absolutely thrilling.

i’ve been holding out on this post because i’ve been running on so much adrenaline from one of the most inspiring and beautiful days i have ever experienced. on thursday, after months of planning (and hours of photoshopping articles together on my part), the SEAK foundation took over the north end of union square park for the sports bra challenge! it was a day of fitness and wellness, including vinyasa yoga, pound from crunch, and two enormous soulcycle classes. all outdoors. and all in sports bras.

when i started spinning at soul a year ago, i never would have dreamed that i would be doing this outdoors with no shirt in front of waves of random spectators. i was just starting to get over my fear of working out and probably 25 lbs heavier when i decided to walk into the grapefruit-scented white cube on 83rd and 3rd. i’m pretty sure it was fate that there was an open bike in ayana’s class because i went back the next week and the week after that. 2011 was my summer of soul. i found my strength in those dark studios, and a year later, i’m riding upwards of seven times a week.

the sports bra challenge was the perfect way to mark my soul-versary. though i was still pretty self-conscious peeling off my tank on thursday, once i got on the bike, i realized i had so much more to be proud of than i had insecurities. by the second song, i was head-banging and grinning like a lunatic. and i enjoyed every minute of it.

i have so many people to thank. my soulfamily, especially ayana, kym, laurie, christine, and danny, have inspired me to always turn it a notch to the right. i’m also extremely grateful to have been a part of the SEAK foundation and sports bra challenge. infinite thanks to jenny, jocelyn, and kelly for allowing me to be part of your dream!

here’s to many, many more years of soul and the sports bra challenge 2013!
